A thin market cuts both ways
Polk County is not Houston. In a lot of trades here there are three or four real competitors, not three hundred. That has two consequences and they pull in opposite directions.
The good one: moving up the map pack takes far less work than it would in a metro. A profile that's properly built, actively posted to, and collecting reviews can pass competitors who have never touched theirs.
The one nobody tells you: some businesses here are already ranking first across their whole service area, simply because there's almost nobody to compete with. If that's you, there is nothing for me to sell you, and I'll say that after the grid check, before you've paid me anything at all.
Where the map actually matters
Livingston sits at the middle of a service area that stretches a long way. A plumber based in town might cover Onalaska, Goodrich, Corrigan, Leggett, Seven Oaks and out around Lake Livingston. Ranking well in Livingston and nowhere else is the single most common pattern I see — and it's invisible to the owner, because when they search their own trade from their own shop, they look fine.
The grid scan is what makes that visible. It checks your rank from a spread of points across the area, not just from where you're standing.
Lake Livingston changes the shape of the year. Seasonal population swings mean search volume for a lot of trades moves considerably between summer and winter. Worth knowing when you're reading a monthly report and wondering why calls dipped.
What it costs here
Polk County sits at the lower of my two rates. Competition is thinner, the work is genuinely less, and charging Houston money for it would be hard to justify.
